Winter Chill is in the air, even though it is only October. Nights are getting cooler, coats are getting fluffier, and UGGS are out (if you’re like me, though, you never put your UGGS away!).

It is time to think how to keep ourselves warm, but comfortable during the cold months of Winter. Remember when our parents used to connect our mittens with a string through the coat sleeves, like in the movie “The Christmas Story”? Get back to nostalgia with cute hand knit gloves, beanie hats, versatile scarves and shawls!

These are only a few of the things that come to mind when we think of feeling cozy and stylish. After all, we’re going to be braving the cold weather and exposing our precious ears to freezing temps!

Obviously, being a scarf designer, wearer, and collector, I absolutely love styling them! Winter is a great way to use a scarf to add a bit of color and splash of your own unique styling to your coats and jackets.

Now, there are some classic chic ways of wearing a nice cozy shawl, triangle down, tied in a small knot around the neck and under collar, but let’s get a bit more creative! We are the anti-minimalists after all!

I love adding some accessory vibes by tying a small colorful scarf on my wrist to set off the color of my coat. It’s not for warmth, but certainty a cute way to have that “bracelet” style goin’ without having cold metal touching your skin during those frigid temps.

If it’s a bit windy out, and you want to keep that heat in under your coat, belting it works wonders. Why not use a nice long scarf for a stylish belt while running around town? Restyle it as a scarf around your neck when you get a little downtime on a bus or train to feel nice a cozy on your ride. You can even cover your nose to keep the strong smell of perfume of other passengers out of your sensitive, allergy prone nostrils. It’s one of my handy life tricks.

Silk is actually incredibly good for your hair and skin. It protects it from loosing moisture and breaking. It also keeps it from looking oily and dull during winter months when we slide on those cute little beanies with giant pom poms on our locks to keep our ears from freezing and falling off as we run to grab a cab for our lunch meeting.

I throw on a silk scarf instead of a hat (or sometimes, dare I say, under my hat) for quick runs outside. It’s pretty and lets my head breath and not freeze.

Another favorite look of mine for the coat wearing weather is taking a large shawl, either oblong or square, tucking it under my coat collar, and letting the ends drape the front, then for an extra chick factor, I belt my coat with a thick belt. I am sure you have realized by now I do whatever I must to keep that warmth from escaping.

Let’s not forget about the men, who also strive to be warm and stylish! Well, you know, some of them do. If you want to add a touch of sophistication to a special man in your life, I suggest getting him a cool and versatile scarf. I suggest our “Bare Bones” one in silk/wool blend, that sports cool skulls, gray and tan tones and comes in an extra-large size to keep anyone warm and toasty! You can style it with a loop, or just do the classic triangle down style.

Bottom line is, my beauties, we must do all we can to keep our HOT selves warm and chic, even if winter’s freezing temps challenge our inner hotness!

Stay warm and stay anti-minimalistic in your style and your life!
